Student Work-Integrated Learning Fellowship
What is the Student Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) Fellowship?
This Canada-wide program is designed to give 400 Canadian post-secondary students the experience they need to navigate the future of work.
Talented students will be matched with scaling ventures in the MaRS ecosystem for an intensive four-month work term, allowing them to develop their skills in a hands-on setting.
Who can apply?
The Student Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) Fellowship is a three-year initiative — developed by MaRS Studio Y and Employment & Social Development Canada — that is open to all students currently enrolled in post-secondary education. However, in order to foster a diverse workplace, focus will be placed on attracting people of all ages from underrepresented groups including:
- Female students enrolled in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields
- Recent immigrants;
- Indigenous youth; and
- First-year students.
The fellowship curriculum
MaRS has identified four key industry sectors for the Student Work-Integrated Learning Fellowship: health; energy & environment; finance & commerce; and work & learning. The program will provide eligible students with employment experiences in these areas, focusing specifically on STEM, as well as non-technical business roles in sales and marketing.
In addition to facilitating placements in scaling ventures, Studio Y will guide the students through a curriculum that helps build 21st century skills and mindsets, so they can successfully compete in the innovation economy.
