Mary Goitom

Anti-Oppression, Equity & Inclusion curriculum and training

Mary Goitom is leading our anti-oppression, equity and inclusion curriculum and training. Mary is an assistant professor at York University’s School of Social Work. Her teaching, research and service are richly informed by her experience as a practitioner of both development work in Africa and social work in Canada, which has included direct practice with individuals, families and groups, as well as community work (critical approaches to community organizing, advocacy and capacity building). We are excited that Mary is passionate about contributing to the training of future social and economic innovators who are adequately prepared to work within an anti-oppressive and culturally competent framework.

Mary will provide anti-oppression (AOP) training to the Studio Y core team, faculty and fellows, hold debriefing sessions at the end of each residency and initiate a research project examining the practice and impact of weaving AOP into our fellowship.
